Two Key Service to Department Roles: Faculty Advisor to ACA & Workshop Facilitator
Faculty Advisor: Applied Communication Association (ACA)ACA has three major projects they complete during the academic year: the annual Fall Sweep, public speaking competition, and communication-related business tours in Buffalo. I take my role as their advisor seriously; therefore, I meet with the e-board regularly, communicate with the president frequently, and attend all their major events. For instance, during fall sweep I helped publicize the occasion, reviewed drafts of their speeches, assisted with their fundraising efforts, and did other various tasks that the e-board asked me to complete. I also served as a judge for their public speaking competition and helped them secure two more faculty judges. I met the students in Buffalo and joined them on their Buffalo business tours and for lunch. I also sought to have ACA included in the annual Communication Department scholarship breakfast. This past year I recognized a prominent ACA member who was dedicated to community service.

Facilitator: Communication Department Cover Letter & Resume WorkshopIn April 2017, a colleague and I hosted a 2-day cover letter and resume writing workshop for communication majors. Click here to see the website that we created to supplement our presentation. You can also view our PowerPoint here. Moving forward, the cover letter/resume workshop will be an annual event occurring every fall semester, and we will host an interviewing workshop every spring for communication majors.
