Narrative Overview: Service
Since joining the Fredonia faculty in 2016, I have made substantial contributions in appropriate department, university, and professional service. Service is essential to a functioning academic department, university, and academic discipline. As I decide where to allocate my time, I remain committed to John Dewey’s statement that “we must strive to meet the needs of all students. To do this is to ensure that all students will be capable and successful citizens and active participants in society." The majority of my service commitments have been long term and stem from my academic specialities. The service section of my dossier explains the ways I have and will continue to serve the department, university, and discipline. Each service task I completed contributes to Fredonia's mission to help students become skilled, connected, creative, and responsible global citizens and professionals and encourages students to become civically engaged. Here are a few highlights:

- Interact with students while serving as the faculty advisor for the Applied Communication Association, the department's director of internships, and co-facilitator of the department's annual cover letter/resume and interviewing workshops
- Chair the department's newly formed scholarship committee and help organize the honors celebration luncheon
- Lead a team of faculty charged with creating an online master's program

- Interact with faculty, staff, and administrators as chair of the American Democracy Project committee (ADP)
- Serve as the faculty advisor to the Fredonia Democracy Initiative student group
- Contribute to the Council on Online Learning (COOL) and the Digital Instruction Support team (DIS)
- Participate in the PDC's mentoring program
- Served a term as the department's university senate representative
Discipline.
- Review manuscripts, conference paper submissions, and book proposals that scholars for publication consideration
- Create and share syllabi with the National Communication Association's Teaching and Learning Council
