Goals for Future Service
In the years ahead, I will continue to attend to the service needs of the department, university, and discipline. I believe my organizational skills, determination, and leadership abilities position me to achieve the following service goals in the future:.
Department Service Goals
Department Service Goals
- I will continue to work on the online master's program. To achieve this goal, I will work with department faculty and administrators to design a unique master's program grounded in communication and leadership. I will also help administrators usher the program proposal through the approval process. Once the program receives SUNY's approval, I will begin building online course shells for the program's graduate classes.
- I will work with the scholarship committee to increase the number of applications we receive for department scholarships.
- I will collaborate with Dr. Lohiser to revise our annual professional development workshops.
- I would like to see the Applied Communication Association gain more members so I will help ACA organize a membership drive and events that spark interest in the student organization.
- I look forward to serving on the Department Personnel Committee and possibly chairing the DPC in the near future.
- I will continue leading the American Democracy Project committee by (1) hosting guest speakers who help the committee achieve its goal of preparing the next generation of informed, engaged citizens for our democracy, (2) recruiting more faculty members to join the committee, and (3) registering students to vote in upcoming elections and giving them the information they need to make informed decisions on Election Day.
- I would like to create and oversee an "ADP: online news curator" internship opportunity.
- When my term as a member of the Council on Online Learning expires I will ask the Dean to consider reappointing me.
- I will continue answering calls for help with the university's online learning efforts and will support colleagues' efforts to develop their online teaching skills.
- Although I have delivered conference presentations, I have never chaired a panel. In the future, I will offer to chair a panel for the political communication or public address divisions at a professional conference.
- Since 2011, I have reviewed conference submissions for various divisions of the National Communication Association and am therefore confident in my ability to offer pointed feedback and would like to use this skill while serving as a panel respondent. I will reply to emails from panel organizers seeking respondents familiar with topics relating to my research program and/or respond to division calls for conference participation in the form of being a panel respondent. This is a unique way for me to network with other researchers and use my knowledge to help colleagues strengthen their papers.
